NaLu Vs GrayLu

Have you ever seen an awe-inspiring magic trick, something that truly amazes you? But as soon as you’re told of how it works the magic suddenly vanishes

That’s how you can you see this “GrayLu trick”

I must say ZN’s moments collage fav.me/d6t8uy7 isn’t actually his! It’s actually Milady666’s GrayLu collage fav.me/d5eo2n6 but some of you already know that! ^^ First things first, let’s see how GrayLu became a famous pairing:

Even before Edolas arc, shippers (mostly NaLu shippers) developed and used a curious kind of logic when regarding their ships. If character “A” is standing next to character “B” in the same panel, that’s AxB moment! You claim it to be a hint but you give no explanation of why it’s a hint, they’re just standing next to each other. This is just simple fallacy, a glitch in the matrix their “logic”

They used to brag about the superiority of their pairing and undermine any argument against NaLu thus angering others fans.

When Lisanna resurrected, NaLu haters and shippers of the other Lucy’s pairings (GrayLu and LoLu), took NaLi as the way to get rid of Natsu and claim their ships as possible outcomes. Was it effective? Your answer depends of how much you had read of Fairy Tail and how well do you understand the development between the characters… or how much the fandom influences your preference on ships

GrayLu became “popular” not because of a sheer amount of moments, not because of the story development and certainly not because of Lisanna. GrayLu became “popular” because of an extremely good and effective publicity campaign; surprised? You shouldn’t! The main “publicist” was the talented artist we know as Milady. How did she do it? She took Juvia’s paranoid delusions and made them “real” to the fans. Thanks to her unmatched artistic skills at drawing anime (especially Fairy Tail) she started to give GrayLu a compelling, fascinating and “exotic” (as she herself describes it) look. Her artwork made GrayLu the best-looking Fairy Tail pairing; and Juvia’s in-universe paranoia actually fueled this “publicity”, even if the manga/anime mostly pointed to NaLu. Her “logic” (and GrayLu fandom’s “logic”) was the same ‘marry those who stand next to each other’. All you need to say is “GrayLu” is having both characters in the same panel next to each other (one of the reasons why I hold shippers in low regard). Milady initially borrowed NaLu fans’ not so original fallacies

That’s one of the many reasons why her “publicity campaign” was successful (until GrayLu trolls decided to get their revenge on NaLu). Still some GrayLu fans went beyond that simple fallacy; they claimed Gray is a better match to Lucy personality-wise and because he’s far more caring (and/or romantic) than Natsu. To them GrayLu looks perfect. Even NaLu fans are able to admit their fandom lacks impressive and/or compelling art and better fics which GraLu has in spades or even comment. Some even went as far as claiming: “I think they'd make an awsum couple and wish they'd give it a shot!” or putting theories/comments above the manga story development.

After making GrayLu “popular” enough, Milady made her “magic trick”; in order to make her pairing look “canon” she posted their “legitimate moments”. Another reason why I now hold shippers in low regard is this: even now, they still buy such “publicity”

When I finally saw that “magical” collage I was surprised! But after ZN posted his stolen version a few people pointed something that was never addressed before, those “moments” were edited; some had Natsu edited out and others had the main cast edited out in order to look as Gray and Lucy moments. As soon as you understand that, the “magic” of Milady’s collage suddenly vanishes. But is still amusing to see how she tried to “murder the hypotenuse” by using Photoshop (probably because she still saw Natsu as an obstacle to GrayLu )

If you actually evaluate these GrayLu moments, it’s easy to see they never had nor felt something for each other outside either friendship or a little admiration, but nothing implying the possibility of romance between them (in fact the only real “hint” you can find it in Fairy Tail graphic novel, it was illustrated by Mashima but it wasn’t written by him)

The only few “moments” GrayLu has are the arguably flirty scene between Gray and Lucy during the Galuna Arc and the Gemini!Gray statement, everything else are the “standing next to each other” argument and panels taken out of context

Still I must praise most GrayLu fans because they’ve pretty much accepted this in a civilized manner and are able to see the logical outcome (unlike a troll we all know!); and they don’t go claiming their ship is the best to NaLu fans (unlike a troll we all know!)

As you guys can see here, I decided to have all the fun I could have with this one and I even did the job of haters (chewbacca defense and common fallacies) to avoid the usual ship-ship combat. So all you have to do is debate the validity of said “moments”

If you’re reading this Gab, I’m telling you now: if those “NaLu fans” see GrayLu as a couple is because they’re using “circular reasoning” to feed a delusion, and if that’s the case, they’re unable to see Natsu and Lucy development neither trully say they support NaLu, so Stop Crying!
